Studio

Studio turns results into something you can show. A figure comes straight from a Viewer at the zoom, channels and annotations you had on screen; a dataset placed on a slide stays live rather than becoming a screenshot; and a paper compiles to a real PDF with its LaTeX source available.

Studio opens on your recent documents with New presentation, paper, poster, Import .pptx, .docx, .pdf, and Import from a source for a document sitting in a connected drive. A document can be converted later — Convert to slides, Convert to poster, Convert to paper — from its menu.

Everything is saved to your Drive under Studio/Presentations, Studio/Papers or Studio/Posters, so a document is findable in the Data app next to the data it came from.

With a Viewer and a Studio document both open, press Capture view in the tool cluster (or s). The current view — image, zoom, channels, layers, annotations — lands on the slide. Its menu, Capture from, lets you pick which open Viewer to capture when there are several, and Capture region… arms the region tool so you can capture just part of an image.

The Data button puts a dataset on the slide. A table or plot inserted this way stays connected to its file: change the file and the slide follows.

Papers and posters keep figures in a library rather than loose on a page. New figure starts one; Capture from Viewer adds its first revision, and Capture new revision adds another without losing the earlier ones. Each figure has a title and a caption, and you choose which revision to insert.

Assets in the toolbar opens a drawer of illustrations. Search Open libraries, the same open-licence drawings as the Assets tab in Commons, or pick from Your Assets folder in Drive. Click a drawing to place it in the middle of the page, or drag it to where it should go. A drawing copied in Commons also pastes straight onto a slide or poster.

In a presentation, New slide adds a slide with the default layout. The chevron beside it offers the others: Title and content, Title, Section header, Figure and caption, Two columns and Blank. Each layout comes with placeholder boxes that say what goes where. To add a layout’s boxes to a slide you already have, right-click it in the slide list and choose Add layout.

The theme button in the document’s header sets the look of the whole document: Page background (Follow app theme, Light or Dark), Font (Default font, Inter Tight, Georgia or Mono) and Accent for new titles (None, Indigo, Teal, Rose, Amber or Slate). The font applies to every text box that has not been given its own, and exports follow it.

With a presentation open, a Present button appears in the tool cluster. It plays full screen.

Presenter view shows the current slide, the next one, your speaker notes and a clock counting from when you started. Open audience window puts the slides alone in a second window that follows you as you advance: move it to the projector or share it in a call, and keep the presenter view for yourself. Slide only goes back to the plain slide, and End stops presenting.

Slide transitions are None, Fade, Slide or Magic Move, with a duration. Objects on a slide can build in with Appear, Fade in, Fly in or Zoom in, on click or after the previous one.

A paper starts from a Starter layout — pick one, fill in the title, authors, affiliation and abstract, and the manuscript is laid out for you. The source is LaTeX underneath; you can edit it directly or leave it alone.

Compile PDF builds the paper and shows it beside the source. The status line tells you whether the PDF matches the current source or the source has changed since. A failed compile keeps the last good PDF and lists the compiler errors.

Ray’s mark in the manuscript toolbar tags the paper in the chat bar: click it, and a Studio manuscript chip appears above the composer with the caret ready for your question. Ray reads the current live source through Studio, so you can ask for a section, a rewrite, citations, or a figure generated from numbers. Ask for a proposal if you want to review the change before it is saved. Unsaved edits are flushed before the tag is made, so Ray never reads a stale draft.

When a document is ready to go out, save a Publication release: a named, frozen PDF — Journal submission v1 — alongside the source it was built from. The release list shows whether each one still matches the current draft or the draft has moved on, so you always know which PDF the reviewers have.

The export menu offers Export as each format the document supports, Download LaTeX source (.zip) for papers, and Save to Google Drive.
